Coach catchup is where I get everybody caught up on whats going on in the world of coaching updates.

The lions firing of Mike Martz, and promotion of offensive lines coach Jim Colletto, raises some questions. Questions like why? Mike Martz didn’t do a great job producing a running game, but that was because when he did run the ball, he did it ten times in a row. You’re not going to fool a defense when by the 7th time in a row, they pretty much know what you’re going to do. I will say this though. this year the lions offense played the best they have since Barry Sanders. The offense wasn’t the reason that the Lions were awful. For instance, the Lions offensive line didn’t block at all this year. So why does the offensive line coach get Mike Martz’s job? Also the defense did not tackle. So what I am saying is Mike Martz will get a job somewhere else, and wherever he goes, that teams offense will eat us alive. in this case Martz gets the last laugh, and the lions will even more be the laughing stock of the NFL.

Our other Coaching update is the on going saga of is Dungy coming back? Well that question is finally over. after talking it over with his family, and pondering retirement on his own, Tony Dungy is coming back for another year as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. Dungy led the Colts to a superbowl win last year, becoming the first black coach to get a superbowl ring. With Dungy by their side, the Colts will remain a team to be reckoned with in the following year.

Yesterdays second game was, the Giants at the Packers. I picked the Giants over the Packers 28-20.

Though the Giants defense was unable to get to Favre, they were able to stop Green Bay in every other way. Green Bay only ran for 28 yards, and threw for 236 yards. Bret Favre threw two touchdowns and two picks, including the one in overtime leading the Giants to the superbowl.

Eli Manning played just as well as he did in the past two playoff games. He completed 21 out of his 40 passing attempts. Connecting with Plaxico Burress 11 times for 154 yards. The two running backs for the Giants, Jacobs and Bradshaw racked up 130 yards and a touchdown each. Lawrence Tynes missed two field goals, including a game winner in the last seconds of regulation, but he was able to get one between the up rights in over time to win the game 23 to 20.

The first game yesterday was the AFC Championship between the Chargers and the Patriots. I picked the Patriots 32 to 23.  The Chargers were able to move the ball, but the Patriots stopped them from getting into the endzone all game. The Chargers were forced to kick three field goals from inside the fifteen yard line.

Tom Brady threw three picks, but luckily for them the Chargers were unable to capitalize on those opportunities.  All the credit for this win would have to go to the Patriot defense.
